Values are holding at NVLX Wodonga on Thursday as restockers and processors take into account the limited numbers on offer and realise store cattle supply across state will be tight for the foreseeable future.
Michael Unthank, director BUR Wodonga quoted the sale as ‘very strong’ with weaner steers selling for 500c/kg plus while heavy steers were ‘up to 420c/kg for steers around 500kg’.
“The female job was also very strong on limited numbers although quality and condition was very good,” Mr Unthank said.
“Numbers have dropped dramatically and there isn’t going to be a lot around for a while.
“Female cattle will stay dear for some time.”
Values for weaner steers weighing under 300kg sold to $1440 for 18 Herefords weighing 211kg.
